Allergy Awareness, what does it mean to you?

"Its not fair that my child misses out" I'm seeing too often and I can't wrap my head around it!

So let me ask...

Are you really allergy aware?
Are you aware that food can potentially cause death? Food allergy is the leading cause of anaphylaxis. 10 people a year DIE from anaphylaxis.
Could you really live with the fact that you essentially could of avoided a child becoming extrenemly I'll or hospitalized, because you thought your child eating a particular food was MORE IMPORTANT?!

There is no cure for food allergies, food avoidance is the only way to prevent a reaction, and is crucial.

So what is a food allergy?

A food allergy is an immune system response to a food protein that the body mistakenly believes is harmful. When the individual eats food containing that protein, the immune system releases massive amounts of chemicals, triggering symptoms that can affect a person’s breathing, gastrointestinal tract, skin and/or heart.

Signs and symptoms of food allergy can be mild, moderate or severe. An allergic reaction can include; hives, swelling of the lips, face and eyes, abdominal pain, vomiting, swelling of the tongue, swelling of the throat, breathing difficulty, persistent dizziness and/collapse. If left untreated, signs and symptoms related to breathing and heart/blood pressure can be fatal.

Within moments after eating mayo in a "ham & cheese sandwich" we ordered. Lips and chin and cheeks starting to swell, very red and sore, rash appeared.

Within 10 minutes, eyes swelled almost shut, tongue swelled, unable to swallow saliva properly. Cheeks and chin very swollen. Rash began appearing all over body.

Within a day entire body was covered in sore raw eczema. Hours of screaming from the pain and unable to sleep for days. Vomiting.

I urge you to please become more allergy aware.
